7th Annual Youth Gathering
On August 10th, 2024, from 12 PM to 6 PM, we gathered at Regent Park for the 7th Annual Youth Gathering hosted by Toronto Council Fire. This year’s event, themed “Using Our Voices,” was a vibrant celebration that highlighted the importance of amplifying Indigenous voices
The gathering brought together approximately 700 community members, including First Nations, Métis, and Inuit families, alongside the diverse communities of Tkaronto. The event featured an array of activities, including traditional dancing, drumming, and performances that honored our rich cultural heritage.
Key participants included Head Male Dancer Ian Akiwenzie, Head Female Dancer Sage Myran, Head Youth Female Dancer Indiana Cada, and Head Youth Male Dancer Dakota Robinson. A significant highlight of the gathering was having Jessica McKenzie, Miss Indigenous Canada 2024.
The event also featured a diverse range of vendors offering delicious food options and unique cultural items, creating a lively marketplace atmosphere.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the dancers, drummers, special guests, and the Toronto Council Fire youth sector, whose contributions made this gathering a resounding success. This event, although centered around youth, was open to the entire community, reflecting our shared commitment to cultural preservation and community spirit.
